The Bayt Mal Al Quds Agency announced, on Monday in Rabat, the creation of the “Al Quds” grant for the support of media and press freedom in relation to the issues of Al Quds and Palestine. This announcement comes in the wake of the murder of Palestinian-American journalist Shireen Abu Akleh.
It is within the framework of the protection of journalists and media professionals, all specialties combined, and their sources of information, that this subsidy was created.
Granted by the “Rabat” Observatory for observation, monitoring and evaluation, under the Agency with its headquarters in Al Quds Acharif, this subsidy has a social character and corresponds to the mission of the institution which works for the protection and preservation of the civilizational heritage of the holy city.
The “Al Quds Acharif” award for journalistic excellence in development media for the benefit of students from press and media institutes in Morocco and Palestine will be awarded by a jury.
For its first edition, the jury will be chaired by the former Minister of National Education, the academic Abdallah Saaf, and will also be composed of several teachers, researchers in the field of media and the press in Morocco and Palestine.
This year, the first edition was named after the late journalist Shireen Abu Akleh. This grant is a tribute to the memory of journalists who lost their lives to defend the duty of the profession and the values of law and justice, indicated the Director in charge of the management of the Bayt Mal Al Quds Acharif Agency, Mr. Mohamed Salem Cherkaoui.
Shireen Abu Akleh has demonstrated throughout her professional career humanism and commitment to asserting the truth, he added.
He explained that the choice of the late journalist Shireen Abu Akleh to bear the name of the first edition of the “Al-Quds Acharif” Award for Journalistic Excellence tends to equip journalists in Al-Quds and in Palestine with the techniques and skills of the work journalistic.
He also underlined the great concern that HM King Mohammed VI has for this institution and the direct supervision by the Sovereign of its action, which has made it possible to set up innovative initiatives and projects for the benefit of the Maqdessie population and contribute to the strengthening of their resistance to the challenges of daily life, in order to defend the sacredness of the nation.
For his part, the Palestinian ambassador in Rabat, Jamal Al Shobaki, reaffirmed the leading role played by the Al Quds Committee, under the leadership of His Majesty the King, for the defense of the sacred values of the ummah, adding that the The choice of the late Shireen Abu Akleh to bear the name of the 2022 edition of this prize is part of the constant support for the Palestinian people and their just causes.
The Palestinian diplomat further called on the media and journalists to convey the truth about conditions in Palestine, noting the need for unwavering solidarity to support the Palestinian people and cause.
