Baraka meets with AfDB Regional Director for North Africa

The Minister of Equipment and Water, Nizar Baraka, held talks in Rabat on Friday with the Regional Director General of the African Development Bank (AfDB) for North Africa, Mohamed El Azizi.

The latter was accompanied by Achraf Tarsim, country manager of the Morocco National Office, and Mohamed El Ouahabi, water sector expert at the Morocco office of the AfDB.

“This meeting is scheduled as part of the official mission of the senior ADB official, from November 1 to 6 in Morocco, the main purpose of which is dialogue with the new government in order to reaffirm the Bank’s commitment to support Morocco in the implementation of its program ”, indicates a press release from the ministry.

These include the identification of new projects for the period from 2022 to 2024, and the monitoring of ongoing projects, the same source said.

On this occasion, Nizar Baraka praised the rich record of cooperation between the Kingdom and the ADB as well as its continuous and long-standing support efforts in the realization of several structuring and priority projects.

He referred to the new dynamic initiated by the current government, which is based on the New Development Model project, whose main objectives consist of sustainable development aimed at improving the standard of living of citizens and affecting education, gender, public health and the improvement of public services.

In this context, the Minister underlined the importance reserved by the government to boosting sustainable infrastructure, strengthening water security, as well as reducing regional inequalities and disparities.

The officials of the ADB group, for their part, showed their interest in the ministry’s projects relating to water management as well as those related to the construction of water and transport infrastructure. They reiterated their entire willingness to work to support the current government in carrying out its projects.
