Bank Al-Maghrib launches the process of designing a policy dedicated to the economic empowerment of rural women

As part of its initiatives to promote financial inclusion, Bank Al-Maghrib is launching the process of designing a policy dedicated to the economic empowerment of rural women, in collaboration with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD).

The launch of this process comes following an in-depth analysis of the socio-economic situation of rural women in Morocco, carried out by Bank Al-Maghrib, with the support of the Alliance for Financial Inclusion (AFI) and the International Fletcher School.

The project is now entering the formulation phase, the objective of which is to build a national policy centered on the needs and aspirations of women in rural areas. In this context, Bank Al-Maghrib organized, on March 8, 2022 in Rabat with the support of AFI and the EBRD, a first workshop bringing together public and private players in the financial inclusion ecosystem (Ministries, institutions and public agencies, professional associations and civil society associations).

The work of this workshop made it possible to:
o Take stock of the financial and economic inclusion of rural women; o Identify the challenges to be met and the policy to be put in place;
o Determine potential pillars for the economic empowerment of rural women; o Agree on the approach to be taken for the conduct of the next steps of the project.
This event constitutes a first meeting with the various actors concerned. Other exchange meetings will be scheduled with a view to achieving concrete measures capable of promoting the economic empowerment of rural women.
