Badr Siwane lands second spot in the African Triathlon Championship

Moroccan athlete Badr Siwane finished second in the African Triathlon Championship on Friday in Hurghada, Egypt.

Badr took his name to the top rankings after a breakout from the start, swimming alongside South African athlete Jamie Riddle, 19 minutes and 53 seconds ahead of the other competitors with more than 30 seconds in lead at the completion of the swimming start.

Badr and Jamie finished the bike ride more than 3 minutes 45 seconds ahead of the other contestants, allowing them to begin the walking portion with an advantage.

The Moroccan athlete participated in the triathlon despite still being in recovery from a very serious hip injury that prevented him from running for more than 6 months.

Back in May, he performed admirably at the Aquathlon World Championship in Ibiza, Spain, and qualified for the Bali Beach Games.

Siwane finished 16th out of 80 competitors from all around the world in this difficult competition that combined 1km of swimming and 5km of running.
