The Ministry of National Education, Preschool and Sports, has indicated that the prices of textbooks remain unchanged for the start of the 2022-2023 school year.
The Ministry of National Education, Preschool and Sports and the Ministry of Economy and Finance have taken a joint decision stipulating the establishment of a support mechanism for textbook publishers, after a series of consultations with the Interministerial Price Committee, the ministry said in a statement.
This decision aims to ensure the sufficient availability of textbooks in a timely manner for the next school year 2023-2022, and to avoid any increase in their prices, in the wake of the government’s efforts to preserve purchasing power. Moroccan families, it is specified.
By virtue of this joint decision, and to encourage schooling and fight against school dropout, direct financial support will be granted to publishers of textbooks intended for the primary and college education cycles which are produced during the year 2022, according to a list of specific textbooks drawn up by the ministry.
The financial support, the disbursement of which is the responsibility of the compensation fund, has been set at 25% of the sale price, after a study of the file by the ministry of each publisher according to the number of textbooks printed and distributed. in 2022.
These measures aim to ensure the stability of the prices of school textbooks on the occasion of the 2023-2022 school year, says the same source, noting that these textbooks appear in the list of goods, products and services whose prices are regulated in accordance with the provisions of Law No. 12-104 on freedom of pricing and competition.
And to conclude that any illegal increase is an offense punishable by law, since any change in its price is subject to a special procedure and government approval.
