The head of government, Aziz Akhannouch, chaired, on Thursday, the first meeting of the committee which will oversee the presentation of Morocco’s joint candidacy file with Spain and Portugal to host the 2030 World Cup.
The meeting with the various ministerial departments concerned took place after the weekly meeting of the Government Council.
The stakeholders present at the meeting examined the aspects related to the organization and logistics for this great event to which Morocco, Spain and Portugal presented a joint candidacy, announced on March 16 by King Mohammed VI, to Kigali.
The King has also appointed Fouzi Lekjaa, Minister Delegate in charge of the Budget and President of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation, as Chairman of the Committee in charge of Morocco’s candidacy.
The participants in the meeting followed a presentation by Fouzi Lekjaa, including the two parts relating to the vision of our country regarding the candidature file, as well as the implementation plan.
Aziz Akhannouch recalled on this occasion the content of the message of King Mohammed VI, on the occasion of the presentation in Kigali of the Prize of Excellence of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) for the year 2022, which was awarded to him awarded.
King Mohammed VI had stressed that this “joint candidacy will be that of the junction: between Africa and Europe, between the north and the south of the Mediterranean, and between the African, Arab and Euro-Mediterranean worlds”.
During this meeting, the head of government stressed that Morocco’s candidacy to host the football World Cup for the sixth time in its history reflects the sovereign’s attachment, since his accession to the glorious throne of his ancestors, to place sport at the heart of any development process.
He added that this common candidacy constitutes a new horizon of strategic partnership, enshrines a new generation of cooperation and partnerships and reflects the pooling of efforts and means of the African and European continents.
It also consecrates, as the sovereign stated in the royal message, “the gathering around the best on both sides, and the demonstration of an alliance of genius, creativity, experience and means”.
Finally, Aziz Akhannouch assured that the government is mobilized to support the Committee in charge of Morocco’s Bid for the 2030 Football World Cup, as part of a joint Morocco-Spain-Portugal bid.
