The President of the Commission of the African Union, Moussa Faki Mahamat, deplored the scenes of violence which punctuated the work of the Pan-African Parliament in Johannesburg and which “tarnishes the image of this honorable institution”.
In this sense, Moussa Faki Mahamat called on parliamentarians to pull themselves together and comply with the institution’s rules and procedures.
The shocking scenes of violence unfolding today in the Pan-African Parliament tarnish the image of this honorable institution. I call on all parliamentarians to pull themselves together and comply with the institution’s rules and procedures.

And to note: “The shocking scenes of violence which took place (…) in the Pan-African Parliament tarnish the image of this honorable institution. I call on all parliamentarians to pull themselves together and comply with the rules and procedures of the institution ”.
As a reminder, the representativeness of the countries of southern Africa, led by South Africa, in the Pan-African Parliament was at the origin of scenes of chaos and violence between parliamentary delegations.
Following these scenes, the Pan-African Parliament, which had not met since October 2019 due to the Covid-19 pandemic, announced Tuesday evening, in a press release, the suspension sine die of the work of the fourth ordinary session of its fifth legislature.
