Atlas Lions: Romain Saïss is unhappy

The captain of the national football team, Romain Saiss, is unhappy and he makes it known. Despite a snatch victory at home against South Africa (2-1) on behalf of the CAN 2023 qualifiers, Saiss did not hide his anger or his fears for the rest of the operations.

Speaking after the meeting, the Atlas Lion acknowledged that there are “things to do, and tactical progress to make”.

“Tactically, we have to progress, if we don’t want to take a beating at the World Cup,” said the former Wolverhampton player.

“With the end of the season, there is a lot of fatigue, injuries… But I think there is a minimum to do, because we took 3-0 against the United States, and again tonight we weren’t realistic. So today I have to think about what’s wrong,” he said.

And to insist: “There are things that you really have to work on, because against teams of a better level, we will take more. Tactically, we have to progress to hope to do something in the World Cup. We don’t want to go there to take a beating for three games and come back with regrets.

Romain Saiss is not the only one to put his finger on the problem. National coach Vahid Halilhodzic also conceded there are gaps in his group.

“The players were combative, but the efficiency was not there,” he said, nevertheless considering that “we must first, we must congratulate the players. It was not an easy match, because we knew that South Africa is a good team, which surprised us with this first chance that they were able to achieve. The players delivered a good match, unfortunately, we weren’t efficient, because we missed a lot of chances, ”said coach Vahid.

As a reminder, the Atlas lions snatched a victory in pain, Thursday at the Moulay Abdellah sports complex in Rabat, against South Africa, for the group stage of the CAN 2023 qualifiers.

In the same context, they will meet next Monday in Casablanca, Liberia, which has asked the African Football Confederation (CAF) to receive its opponents in Morocco.
