At a time when the world is experiencing the spread of the worrying new variant Omicran, the vaccination rate in Morocco has dropped considerably, for both the first, second and third doses. More than 4.5 million people are still not vaccinated.
According to data obtained by MoroccoLatestNews, Last Saturday, only 500 citizens came to the vaccination centers, which is a modest number compared to what had been recorded previously, the number of vaccinators sometimes exceeding 100,000 in 24 hours.
Only 22% of citizens between 60 and 65 were vaccinated with the third booster dose, and only 27% of citizens over 65 received the third dose.
The Ministry of Health and Social Protection announced in the daily bulletin on Sunday that 24,410,199 people have received a first dose of the coronavirus vaccine since the launch of the campaign while 22,632,769 are in the second dose and 1,641,746 for the third.
Regarding the new variant that is shaking the world, called Omicron, the World Health Organization (WHO) estimated, Monday, that it presented “a very high risk” at the global level.
The UN agency has in this sense warned against the many uncertainties that still surround the dangerousness and transmissibility of the variant.
For the moment, this new strain has still not affected Morocco, which quickly took its precautions by deciding the suspension of all direct passenger flights to the Kingdom, for a period of 2 weeks, from this Monday. .
In addition, an assessment of the situation will be undertaken regularly in order to adjust the necessary measures, if necessary.
