The Wilaya of Tizi Ouzou in the region of Great Kabylia has been hit by monster fires since Monday. Several fires suddenly broke out at the same time in this mountainous region. On the internet, Algerians denounce a new form of power drift. Did the Algerian leaders voluntarily set Kabylia on fire to fuel their conspiratorial discourse?
Fires of worrying magnitude have seized this Kabyle region, known to have been one of the capital of Hirak. According to testimonies on the spot, around a hundred fires broke out at the same time in the forests of the Wilaya, so that several Internet users have asked themselves questions.
Indeed, the Kabyles of Tizi Ouzou remained the only ones to disobey the ban on demonstrations imposed by the regime to silence the protest against the Hirak. Neither the arbitrary arrests, nor the police violence, nor the intimidation suffered will have stopped the inhabitants of this region in their demands for democracy and criticism of military power.
Kabylia, rebel region
This rebel region from which the Kabyle separatists came is the only one escaping the Algerian power, it is the only region that boycotted the elections each time they were organized, the polling stations were closed and the day turned into a demonstration. In recent months, faced with the resistance encountered especially in Tizi Ouzou, the Algerian authorities have stepped up actions aimed at stopping any anti-regime demands or demonstrations.
Ahead of the organization of the early legislative elections, provoked for no apparent reason by Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune (and which were subsequently won by his party), the president classified two movements based abroad since they did not ‘have no accreditation in Algeria, as terrorist organizations.
This is mainly the MAK, the Movement for the Autonomy of Kabylia, based in France. Before classifying it as a terrorist organization, the authorities accused members of this movement of having had terrorist projects, which the MAK, which remains an unarmed political movement, firmly denied.
In addition to this measure, the Algerian authorities hastened to conclude an extradition agreement with France and to modify the legal texts, in order to make it easier to classify anyone critical of power as a terrorist threatening the “stability of the country”. ‘State’ and ensure that he is extradited to Algeria.
Anger against President Tebboune
While the forests of this region burned under the flames, Internet users reacted strongly to the non-reaction of the authorities, while helicopters and planes loaded with water to extinguish the flames were necessary.
In the aftermath of the outbreak of these fires which took with them the houses of villagers, human losses were deplored causing at least 10 deaths according to the reports according to the Algerian media, and several families displaced to flee the flames.
According to the same sources, there are more than twenty municipalities in the Wilaya of Tizi Ouzou, which were affected by these fires simultaneously, under a blazing heat, over 45 degrees. On social networks, calls for help have multiplied.
The images of burning mountains have been around the world, and the comments are mostly angry with the country’s leaders. “The people must rebel, the Issaba has started to set fire to the Kbayl region to dislodge its inhabitants,” said a user on Youtube.
“Who set fire to Kabylia,” asked one Internet user, claiming that this is not a coincidence, while another listed the misfortunes experienced by Algerians in recent months. “There is no more hell than to live in Algeria, forest fires, covid ravages, lack of oxygen, shortage of water…”, complained another Internet user.
Where have the budgets gone
The anger also seized the Algerians and was aimed especially at President Tebboune who showed no form of compassion during a recent media release. “Poor Algerian people, it’s almost better to have a president in a wheelchair than a president as dishonest as Tebboune”, reacted a user to the recent media release of the Algerian president and his approximate and incorrect information on the inventory of the health crisis in Algeria.
Several people have also criticized the same president who did not deign, according to them, to offer his condolences to the families of the victims of the lack of oxygen in the country and of the victims of the fires. “No condolences, no compassion, what a disappointment,” wrote one netizen, adding that people on home oxygen concentrators have died due to power cuts.
And concerning forest fires, several voices have been raised to ask where the military budgets have gone and why this military institution did not fight the fires by leaving the citizens to fight alone against the flames. The Algerians denounced the absence of helicopters and canadairs to put out the fires.
Other voices who called for emergency international aid regretted that President Abdelmadjid Tebboune has once again rejected the outstretched hand of King Mohammed VI, and that he refuses aid from Morocco, which has 15 canadairs who have already been able to help Spain and Portugal in their fight against the flames.
The conspiracy theory, new act
Faced with the rise of social discontent linked to this umpteenth sad event which further destroys the morale of Algerians, the Algerian president sent the ministers of the Interior, Agriculture and National Solidarity to the scene to provide, according to local media, moral support to residents affected by the fires.
This visit was an opportunity to once again carry out military propaganda on the spot, relieving the government of any responsibility for these events. “Only criminal hands can be at the origin of the simultaneous outbreak of fifty fires across several localities of the wilaya”, declared the Algerian Minister of the Interior.
“Criminal hands fed with hatred against our country and wanting to harm Algeria are behind the fires,” he said in a statement to the press relayed by the official Algerian agency APS.
“Next Saturday, a delegation of 130 to 140 experts will go to Tizi-Ouzou to assess on the ground, in the municipalities affected by the fires, the exact extent of the damage and losses”, he added. without saying how his government intends to control the fires.
“Since independence, our leaders have learned the same speech, foreign hands, at all levels”, reacted a net surfer after this statement while other comments affirm that the capacity seeks to bring down the country in a news black decade to eliminate the Kabyle people. “I wonder who is profiting from this crime? the Islamists? I do not think so. It is the Algerian state that is certain by its negligence, ”added another in a comment.
“Tebboune let the Algerians die from lack of oxygen. He leaves the fires without coming to the aid of the population, counting the water shortages. He must resign. Tebboune is dangerous, and he does not want to ask for help, ”lamented a user.
“What is bizarre is that helicopters and planes flew over Kabylia the day before and the day after fires broke out at the same time in a synchronized manner, and aid from the Algerian state is obviously absent! »Asked a net surfer with the flag of Kabylia flanked on his profile picture.
