ANRT / Mobile: 155% increase in data traffic in 2020

The National Telecommunications Regulatory Agency (ANRT), indicated that data traffic in the mobile segment increased by 155% during the year 2020.

In a press release on the growth of the parks and the consumption of Data in 2020, the fixed line, for its part, increased by 56% compared to 2019 and was accompanied by an increase of 27.26% (compared to the end of 2019 ) of international Internet bandwidth, which reached 2,507 GB at the end of 2020.

And to specify that outgoing mobile voice traffic stood at 55.68 billion minutes and recorded an annual decline of 1.17%, while the number of mobile minutes consumed per customer per month has reached 99 minutes on average, compared to 103 minutes a year earlier.

The SMS traffic, for its part, exceeded 2.69 billion units and recorded an annual decrease of 29.44% and the voice traffic leaving the fixed line was marked, during the year 2020, by a decrease of 9, 43% compared to 2019, thus impacting the average monthly outgoing usage per fixed customer, which reached 73 minutes instead of 87 minutes a year earlier.

The agency further emphasizes that at the end of December 2020, the number of “Business Data Liaisons” stood at 33,833 lines, recording an annual increase of 11.62%, the time when the number of “.ma” domain names , amounted to 93,506, registering an annual increase exceeding 19% compared to the end of December 2019.

Regarding the pool of IP addresses, Morocco holds, at the end of December 2020, 11% of the IPv4 address ranges allocated in Africa and the Indian Ocean and is the 3rd main user of IPv4 addresses in Africa , totaling 12.26 million IPv4 addresses, specifies the ANRT, noting that 16 IPv6 address ranges are also allocated to Morocco.

Over the past year, number portability has grown by 23.59% for ported mobile numbers (794,560) and 20.48% for fixed numbers (38,443).
