The Minister of Youth, Culture and Communication, Mohamed Mehdi Bensaid inaugurated, Thursday in Rabat, an artistic exhibition on the occasion of the Amazigh New Year 2972, in the presence of several intellectuals and actors of the Amazigh culture.
The exhibition, which celebrates the Amazigh New Year, focuses on the most important aspects of the tangible and intangible cultural heritage of Amazigh culture, as being an essential component of Moroccan identity, characterized by its great diversity and richness.
This exhibition, which will continue until January 20 at the Mohamed El Fassi Art Gallery, under the Department of Culture, is divided into several themes, including traditional clothing and jewelry, traditional cuisine, music and publications. .
In a statement to the press, Mehdi Bensaid stressed that this exhibition celebrates Amazigh culture, although circumstances did not allow the organization of a big party celebrating Moroccan and Amazigh memory.
The Minister highlighted the concerted efforts of the Department of Culture and all the actors concerned, stressing the importance of the celebration of this day to highlight the action accomplished by the government in the promotion of Amazigh culture.
In accordance with the spirit of the 2011 Constitution, a series of initiatives have been put forward by the Department of Culture, including the translation of the site https://maroc.ma/ so that citizens who speak Amazigh are informed of royal and governmental activities.
In the same vein, the rector of the Royal Institute of Amazigh Culture (IRCAM), Ahmed Boukouss, noted in a similar statement that since the adoption of the Amazigh language as an official language alongside Arabic, efforts significant agreements have been made, particularly in the field of the consecration of Amazigh, mainly on the media scene.
Expectations remain high for the implementation of the provisions contained in Organic Law No. 16-26 setting the process for implementing the official character of Amazigh, he added, noting that there is an initiative government aimed at integrating the Amazigh language and culture into the action plans of the ministries.
Such initiatives are important insofar as they will make it possible to give a boost to the process of concretizing the official character of Amazigh, underlined Mr. Boukouss, specifying that there are many constraints relating in particular to the teaching of Amazigh and its generalization at different levels of the education system.
In addition, the Rector of IRCAM welcomed the initiative of the Ministry of Education, Preschool and Sports to recruit young people specialized in Amazigh studies, by devoting 200 financial positions in 2021 and 400 positions in 2022, adding that this is a considerable step forward given the scarcity of frameworks for teaching the Amazigh language.
On the occasion of the exhibition, a series of achievements of the Department of Culture in the field of promoting Amazigh culture were highlighted, including support for Amazigh work, the creation of incentive prizes in the framework of the Prix du Livre du Maroc, the inscription of tangible and intangible Amazigh heritage on the UNESCO World Heritage List and the translation of the website of the Department of Culture, among others.
