Anass Essayi, a student at the School of Business Administration at Al Akhawayn University in Ifrane, qualified for the Tokyo Olympics. He will thus represent Morocco in the 1500m discipline.
Barely 21 years old, Anass EssayiI obtained his qualification after having twice reached the Olympic minimum in his discipline, notably on June 8 at the Hengelo meeting in the Netherlands.
A recent medalist at the Arab Athletics Championships in Tunis, he also won the 1500m at the Castellon meeting in Spain, in 2’34 ”64/100.
“He thus proves that he is a high level athlete” declared Abdeslam Ahizoune, President of the Royal Moroccan Athletics Federation (FRMA).
“The qualification of Anass Essayi is a remarkable achievement, especially since he is one of the few Moroccan athletes who follow, at the same time, their university studies and train at the highest level. We hope that other athletes will emerge in the future within Al Akhawayn University in Ifrane, which offers the support, infrastructure and the right framework for the emergence of world champions ”, underlines Adel Kamane, Director of Athletics at the University.
Note that Anass Essayi also has two medals: silver in the combined event (1500m and cross) at the Youth Games in Buenos Aires in 2018 and bronze in the 1500m at the Pan-Arab Games in Tunis.
