Against Morocco, the German team loses two players

Germany should be deprived, on Monday, of two major players both injured, defender Marina Hegering and midfielder Lena Oberdorf, for their first match of the 2023 Women’s World Cup against Morocco, their coach Martina Voss-Tecklenburg said on Friday.

“It looks like we can’t count on either of them,” said the Germany coach, who will also face Colombia and South Korea in Group H.

Hegering is hit in an ankle while Oberdorf is injured in a thigh. Both players play for Wolfsburg, which reached the last Champions League final, and were part of the Nationalelf which played in the Euro final in 2022.

They should probably be replaced against the Moroccans by Sjoeke Nuesken and Melanie Leupolz, who wear the colors of Chelsea.

World champions in 2003 and 2007, the Germans were stung in preparation, beaten by Zambia (3-2).
