Some unions in the national education sector denounced the latest repressions suffered by teachers who recently demonstrated, in particular, contract workers who invaded the streets of the capital despite the ban in the Wilaya of Rabat. This followed several arrests in the ranks of contract workers, some of whom were taken into police custody before being subsequently released, pending their appearance.
Thus, and during its meeting held remotely on April 8, 2021, the National Office of the National Education Union (SNE) affiliated to the Democratic Confederation of Labor (CDT) discussed the evolution of the educational situation in the Kingdom. characterized by the muscular repression of peaceful demonstrations, the arrests of contract teachers who were referred to the King’s prosecutor at the Rabat court of first instance, and the initiatives taken to support the teaching staff.
” What is happening indicates that Morocco is out of time, and that yesterday’s time is extended into that of today, which brings us back to what happened on April 10 and 11, 1979, and the arrests and trials of activists from the National Education Union, which faced oppression with heroic firmness, defeating the opponents of education workers and the enemies of trade union freedoms“, Recalled the union in a press release sent to Hespress Fr.
While linking what is happening today to yesterday, and recalling the repression, arrests, trials of education executives, the values of struggle to defend the rights of workers, including the right to demonstrate and the right to strike…, the national office of the SNE decided not to let go and thus opted for the escalation by announcing a second week of anger going from April 9 to April 16.
On the program, a national strike this Saturday April 10, the organization of protest sit-ins by union officials in front of the provincial leadership on April 15, as well as the holding of strikes at the provincial and regional levels, while carrying the protest armband.
According to the SNE, the final processing of the contract teachers’ file involves their integration, in their entirety, into the status of the national education sector, and therefore into the civil service system. This is one of the flagship demands of contract teachers.
Recall that several contractual lessons were released Friday after appearing before the prosecutor, who still decided to prosecute them free on charges of assembly, violation of the state of health emergency and insult to the public force.
When they left, they were greeted as heroes by their colleagues, who expressed their determination to follow the struggle and fully enjoy their right to express and demonstrate. They justify this escalation by the absence of concrete signs from the supervisory authority to open a dialogue and seriously deal with their claim file.
