On the first day of the African Kyorugi Championships held in the Rwandan capital Kigali (July 14-17), the Moroccan taekwondo team won 7 medals, including 4 gold, 1 silver and 2 bronze.
Thus, Ayoub El Bassel was gold medalist in the -87 kg category after beating the Nigerian Benjamin Okuomose (2-1) in the final, while his compatriot Fatima-Ezzahra Aboufaras climbed to the highest step of the podium of the most 73 kg, beating in the final the Ivorian Aminata Charlene Traore by the same score (2-1).
The other two gold medals of the national team were the work of Nada Laaraj (minus 57 kg), faller in the final of the Egyptian Ashrakat Nabil, gold medalist at the last Mediterranean games (2-1) and of Nezha Elaasal who beat in the final (minus 49 kg) the other Egyptian Shahd Samy (2-1).
Silver was won by Omar Lakehal who lost in the final (minus 58 kg) to Tunisian Mohamed Khalil Jendoubi.
The other two bronze medals went to Faiçal Saidi (minus 68 kg) and Youssef Boatris (minus 80 kg).
