The President of the African Development Bank (AfDB), Akinwumi Adesina, commended Morocco’s resilience in the wake of the earthquake that affected several of the Kingdom’s provinces during an event in Marrakech on Wednesday.
“Moroccan people are resilient. You recently hosted the Annual Meetings of the World Bank (WB) and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) just a few weeks ago. And now, we’re here, hosted by you as part of the Africa Investment Forum,” said Adesina during the opening of the Africa Investment Forum (AIF).
Adesina also praised the swift and effective relief efforts conducted by the government in the aftermath of the earthquake, which saved lives, provided immediate support to those affected, and restored essential services.
Adesina also used the opportunity to convey the AfDB’s continuous collective support for the recovery efforts to the Moroccan government, announcing that the bank “plans to finance projects worth €782 million in Morocco in 2023.”
