The Board of Directors of the African Development Bank (AfDB) approved a loan of 70 million euros to Morocco to implement the Project to strengthen production and improve the technical and commercial performance of agricultural systems. potable water.
A press release from the African Bank specifies that the new operation aims to improve the performance of production systems and to further secure access to drinking water for the cities of Meknes, Tissa, Missour and Outat El Haj.
According to Mohamed El Azizi, Director General of the AfDB for North Africa, “guaranteeing everyone’s access to quality drinking water is a prerequisite for sustainable development. The new operation consolidates our action in the water sector with cumulative commitments of over 1.2 billion euros ”.
For his part, Achraf Hassan Tarsim, country manager of the Bank for Morocco, indicated that the objective “is to help strengthen and secure access to drinking water for millions of city dwellers and rural localities ”.
The project will help increase storage capacity and control water leaks. It will also make it possible to further improve service to users, as well as the sharing of know-how in the fields of the environment, monitoring-evaluation and new technologies, the press release noted.
It should be noted that this operation is perfectly in line with the Bank’s five main priorities, the “High 5”. It is also part of its ten-year strategy 2013-2022, the objective of which is to establish the conditions for sustainable and inclusive growth on the continent.
