The Global Energy Intelligence Corporation has announced the selection of Dr Sultan bin Ahmed Al Jaber, Managing Director of the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC), as the Energy Leader of the Year for 2021.
The winner of this prestigious award is chosen by CEOs of leading energy companies around the world and will be presented at the annual Energy Intelligence conference, to be held October 4-7 in London.
The Energy Intelligence Group is overseeing the nomination process for this award, formerly known as the Executive Person of the Year Award in the petroleum industry, where a special committee collects nominations submitted by executives of the world’s top 100 companies. .
Names are referred to a ‘selection committee’ made up of past winners of the award in the energy sector, including Amin Nasser, President of Saudi Aramco in 2020, Ben Van Berden of Royal Dutch Company in 2019, Bob Dudley of BP in 2018, Patrick Boyanni of Total in 2017 and His Excellency Khaled Al-Falih, former CEO of Saudi Aramco in 2016 and Rex Tillerson of ExxonMobil 2015.
In a statement, the Energy Intelligence Group praised the role played by Dr Sultan bin Ahmed Al Jaber in implementing the qualitative change and modernization and development processes that ADNOC is witnessing as a model for the development of national oil companies.
Announcing the award, Energy Intelligence President Raja Sidawi said that Dr Sultan bin Ahmed Al Jaber stands out for his ability to innovate at a time of change and development in the energy sector, and that he was able to implement a qualitative change that included the activities, strategy and corporate culture of the company.
Dr Sultan bin Ahmed Al Jaber is working on the implementation of the vision of leadership in the UAE in the field of energy, as he took over the management of the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) in 2016 to implement many development and modernization initiatives in the company, including the development of a new approach to partnerships in the fields of intelligence, the creation of investment opportunities to attract foreign capital, the launch of a promotion program in the country, the implementation of the subscription process for ADNOC Distribution shares. Projects and initiatives aimed at achieving gas self-sufficiency, and the launch of investment and capital structuring programs, as well as Murban crude futures contracts have recently been launched on the market.
To contribute to sustainable development and face the repercussions of climate change, ADNOC focuses on preparing for the new energy future which requires energy production with minimal carbon emissions, reducing emissions during exploration processes, development and production, and strengthening the company’s capabilities in the field. advanced technology to capture, use and store carbon; and planning to produce green hydrogen.
Dr Sultan bin Ahmed Al Jaber was also the Managing Director until 2013 of Abu Dhabi “Masdar”, established in 2006. He continues to chair its board of directors.
Since 2013, he has been a member of the Council of Ministers of the Federal Government of the United Arab Emirates, with the post of Minister of Industry and Advanced Technologies.
