ADNOC Announces First Gas Discovery in Abu Dhabi Offshore Blocks

The Emirati oil company ADNOC announced on Thursday (February 3rd) a gas discovery off the coast of Abu Dhabi, the first of the emirate’s offshore exploration concessions.

“Provisional results from the first exploration well in the Block 2 concession, operated by Italy’s ENI, indicate between 1.5 and 2 billion standard cubic feet (TSCF) of raw gas in place,” ADNOC said in a statement.

A consortium led by ENI and PTT Exploration and Production Public Company Limited (PTTEP) was awarded exploration rights for offshore Block 2 in 2019 under ADNOC’s first competitive tender.

“The discovery of material natural gas resources in offshore Block 2 underscores how ADNOC’s broad approach to strategic partnerships enables us to accelerate the exploration and development of Abu Dhabi’s untapped hydrocarbon resources. ADNOC launched Abu Dhabi’s first and second bulk tenders in 2018 and 2019 respectively.

Abu Dhabi National Oil Company, ADNOC, one of the largest oil and gas companies in the world, is 100% owned by the Government of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi and has 16 specialized subsidiaries and joint ventures.
