The shooting of the film Indiana Jones 5 in Morocco is experiencing a dramatic turn. According to information from New York Post, a member of the team was found dead in his hotel room in Fez.
New blow for the film Indiana Jones 5 already heavily affected by the coronavirus and travel restrictions. The production is now facing the death of its cameraman Nic Cupac, 54, who was found lifeless in his hotel room in Fez, Morocco. The cause of his death has not been revealed, but “it is believed that he died of natural causes”, reports The Sun.
A representative of Lucasfilm, producers of the film, told Newsweek in a press release: “Our hearts go out to the family and friends of Nic Cupac, an incredibly talented colleague and member of the film community who will be sorely missed.“.
Last week, the filming of the film was shaken up when Morocco banned flights to and from the UK due to the increase in cases of the coronavirus. Saga star Harrison Ford, 79, was reportedly set to visit the country just before the ban was announced. Meanwhile, production on the film was halted for three months after Ford suffered a serious shoulder injury in June.
As a reminder, producer Steven Spielberg entrusted the realization of this fifth installment of the Lucasfilm franchise (bought in 2012 by Disney) to James Mangold (known for Logan among others). Spielberg is still involved as a producer alongside his traditional producers such as Kathleen Kennedy and Frank Marshall.
Alongside Harrison Ford will play Phoebe Waller-Bridge (Fleabag), Boyd Holbrook (Logan), Shaunette Renée Wilson (The Resident) and Thomas Kretschmann (Avengers: Age of Ultron). Filming began in London on June 7.
Indiana Jones 5 was originally scheduled to hit theaters on July 9 but has been pushed back to July 29, 2022 amid the pandemic. Last month, Disney announced it would be released on June 30, 2023.
