Morocco has finally joined the closed circle of anti-covid vaccine producers. Indeed, King Mohammed VI chaired, Monday, July 5, the launching and signing ceremony of conventions relating to the project of manufacture and syringe in Morocco of the anti-Covid vaccine and other vaccines.
With this historic decision, Morocco is taking a big step towards vaccine sovereignty, important in these times of pandemic where the race for the anti-covid vaccine remains crucial in the face of the monopoly exercised by the world powers whose watchword remains ” me first“.
In detail, this major project is the result of a public-private partnership. It aims to start in the short term with a production capacity of 5 million doses of anti-Covid19 vaccine per month, before gradually increasing this capacity in the medium term for an overall investment of around $ 500 million.
For the president of the Council of the Order of Pharmacists, Dr Hamza Guedira, “ It is once again a great historic decision taken by King Mohammed VI to ensure the country a kind of autonomy against the possible pandemics that humanity may commit in the future. »He confided to us.
A great decision insofar as it will allow us to be at the rendezvous of South-South cooperation with our great African friends on the continent, continued Dr Guedira before returning to the lessons learned from this Covid-19 pandemic. .
” The Covid-19 pandemic has taught us a lot of lessons, including being able to ensure a kind of autonomy and sovereignty in the pharmaceutical industry, or even in raw materials. Because, unfortunately, 90-95% of the raw material for pharmaceutical manufacturing is concentrated between China and India. And today, Western countries have understood that the situation cannot continue like this. Hence the tendency to repatriate certain industries of pharmaceutical raw materials. And Morocco, of course, must be there to be part of this dynamic. », Considers the president of the Council of the Order of pharmacists.
A project that will serve not only Morocco, but Africa as a whole
The project to manufacture and syringe in Morocco the anti-covid vaccine and other vaccines will strengthen the health resilience of peoples, whether in the Kingdom, but also that of Africa, as it will make an important contribution to the Consolidation of Sino-Moroccan friendship, said Sinopharm Group CEO Liu Jingzhen, who spoke from China for the ceremony to launch and sign conventions relating to the project.
Same story with Dr Guedira who believes that ” the historic decision of King Mohammed VI goes in part in this direction. Namely, ensuring a kind of autonomy concerning us, as Moroccans, and then responding to a certain demand from the African continent ”.
Asked about the probable sale of anti-covid vaccines in pharmacies in the Kingdom, after the launch of this project, the president of the National Council of the Order of Pharmacists is present for this step alongside his colleagues.
” Today, this is the best circuit to be proud of. It is the circuit of the dispensary pharmacy, which is the health space par excellence. A space that ensures proximity to the population, and in which the latter has great confidence. It is therefore certain that the Moroccan pharmacist is also at the rendezvous for the success of this beautiful dynamic initiated by King Mohammed VI. »Concludes Dr Hamza Guedira.
