A cycle of pan-African cinema from the 70s in Marrakech

The French Institute of Marrakech, ESAV and LE 18, offer from May 6 to 13, the TIGRITUDES cycle, a chronological anthology of Pan-African cinema (126 films from 1956 to 2022).

The 1970s decade of the program will be presented, with screenings followed by debates or round tables, to explore a part of the history of cinema on the continent and its diaspora.

Exploring the post-colonial circulation of forms, struggles and ideas

Through works of fiction, documentaries, experimental or even animation, short and feature films, the TIGRITUDES cycle apprehends the postcolonial circulation of forms, struggles and ideas from the continent and its diaspora.

The decade of the 70s will offer 19 films made between 1969 and 1979, divided into 9 screenings. As part of a carte blanche at the French Institute in Marrakech, a tenth screening (05/12) will enrich the program and offer a rare work by filmmaker Moumen Smihi: 44 – Les Récits de la Nuit (1981).

Meetings and sessions for young audiences

To stimulate reflection and promote exchanges with the public, some sessions will be followed by meetings with artists and/or academics. Finally, to make the youngest aware of the wealth of cinemas on the African continent, 8 short films will be screened as part of school mediations at the French Institute in Marrakech.
