Initiated under the theme “Towards an alliance of peace: living together as one humanity», the world forum of the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations (UNAOC) is holding its ninth edition this November 22 and 23 at the Euromed University of Fez (UEMF) in the presence of several senior representatives and officials of foreign countries. The forum has thus set itself the task of promoting intercultural and interreligious dialogue, exchange and cooperation between participants to face major global challenges.
The 9th UNAOC World Forum organized in the city of Fez will be an opportunity for leaders and participants from more than 150 countries to address many global issues and challenges ranging from xenophobia, racism, discrimination, radicalism to terrorism, with particular emphasis on the African continent.
In this regard, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccans Residing Abroad, Nasser Bourita previously stated that “UNAOC’s 9th Global Forum intends to address many challenging cross-cutting and global issues with a particular focus on Africa, a continent that has yet to earn its rightful place in collective action and mobilization world. Indeed, the choice of the Kingdom of Morocco, and particularly the historic city of Fez to host the 9th UNAOC World Forum is no coincidence”.
On the other hand, the high representative of UNAOC and former Minister of Foreign Affairs of Spain, Miguel Angel Moratinos, who arrived in Fez this weekend wanted first to express his gratitude and to thank “ His Majesty King Mohammed VI and the Kingdom of Morocco for hosting this global event in Fez, which was chosen because of its ancestral character and its spiritual symbolism,” and add that ” Ihas holding the 9th UNAOC World Forum in this historic city and the deployment of the joint efforts of the United Nations and the Kingdom of Morocco will guarantee its success”.
Moratinos made it known that “Morocco is a country at the crossroads where different cultures and influences have lived throughout its history…the Kingdom is and has always been a “haven of peace and coexistence” under the “leadership” of King Mohammed VI”.
In addition, the forum will see the participation of the Secretary General of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres, who arrived in Morocco on Monday, accompanied by the official spokesperson of the United Nations and received by Omar Hilal, the permanent representative of the Kingdom to the United Nations.
