The 93rd Academy Awards were held in Los Angeles in a ceremony unlike any other, due to the global pandemic.
Nomadland won three of the biggest awards, best picture, best director and best actress for its star Frances McDormand.
Chloe Zhao (Nomadland) became the first Asian woman to win the Oscar for Best Director. Nomadland has also won the award for best film. Youn Yuh-jung (Minari) is the first Korean to win the award for Best Supporting Actress. And Pixar’s Drunk won the award for best animated film, becoming the only film to have won this award without appearing in American theaters. Anthony Hopkins (The Father) and Frances McDormand (Nomadland) won the awards for Best Actor in a Leading Role and Best Actress in a Leading Role.

Brad Pitt presented the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress to Korean actress Yuh-Jung Youn, 73, for Minari stars including Glenn Close and Olivia Colman.
Laura Dern, who won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress last year, presented the international feature award to Danish film Another Round, which stars Mads Mikkelsen as a teacher of alcoholism.
The Makeup and Hairstyling Oscar went to the team that worked on Ma Rainey’s black background, making Mia Neal and Jamika Wilson the first black women to win the award.
Ann Roth won the Oscar for Costume Design for her work on the same film.
The Oscar for Sound Directing went to Sound of Metal and was presented by its star Riz Ahmed who also presented the award for Best Live Short to Two Distant Strangers.
The award for best animated short was awarded by Reese Witherspoon to If Anything Happens I Love You, while the award for best animated feature went to Soul about a school teacher who wants become a jazz musician.

Actress Marlee Matlin presented Colette with the Oscar for the short documentary on a French resistance fighter who traveled to Germany to find out what happened to her brother in a Nazi concentration camp.
My Octopus Teacher, which traces the story of filmmaker Craig Foster forming a relationship with a wild octopus in a South African kelp forest, won the Oscar for feature documentary. Christopher Nolan’s sci-fi thriller Tenet won the Oscar for visual effects.
The Oscar for Best Production Design went to Mank – the Hollywood story of screenwriter Herman J. Mankiewicz and his screenplay development for Citizen Kane. The same film also won for its cinematography.
Harrison Ford presented the Oscar for Film Editing at Sound of Metal, before Soul won the Oscar for Best Score.
The Oscar for Best Song was presented by Zendaya and went to Judas’ Fight For You and HER’s Black Messiah.
