Nearly 90% of Moroccans use their mobile device to access the internet and especially social networks according to the new Digital 2021 report published by We Are Social and Hootsuite.
Morocco is positioned at the top of the continental scale in terms of internet access and the use of social networks. Indeed, 74.4% of the Moroccan population now has Internet access (27.62 million Internet users), or 9.1% more than last year.
At the end of January 59.3% of the population showed regular activity on social networks, which represents about 22 million users, an increase of 12.8% compared to last year. 89.6% of Internet users connect from a mobile device.
Still according to the same source, Morocco had 3.47 million mobile connections in January 2021.The number of mobile connections in Morocco decreased by 0.5% between January 2020 and January 2021. Moroccan Internet users spend on average almost 4 hours every day on the web via their smartphones and tablets.
According to the same report, Facebook, Youtube, WhatsApp and Messenger remain the most used platforms in the Kingdom, with WhatsApp leading the ranking.
Moreover, 73.7% of Moroccan Internet users (aged between 16-64 years) use this platform, 70.5% for Facebook, 66.5% for YouTube, 51.6% for Instagram and 43.8% for Facebook Messenger, 36.8% for TikTok and 26.1% for Snapchat.
