The supporter author of the bottle throw on the Olympique de Marseille player Dimitri Payet, Sunday evening in Lyon during the Ligue 1 OL-OM match, was sentenced Tuesday by the criminal court to six months suspended prison sentence.
The prison sentence is accompanied by a probation and a ban on access to the Olympique Lyonnais stadium for five years.
The prosecution had requested six months in prison and a stadium ban for five years against the defendant.
This bottle throw had resulted in the final interruption of the match between Lyon and Marseille in the context of the 14th day of the French championship, after only four minutes of play.
Olympique Lyonnais, who became a civil party in the proceedings, demanded Monday “an exemplary sentence”. The Lyon club, which evokes since Sunday evening “an isolated case”, hopes to be able to replay the match against Marseille.
For its part, the disciplinary committee of the Professional Football League, meeting urgently on Monday, sanctioned the club with a closed-door match as a precaution, before rendering a final decision on December 8.
Following this incident, the French government promised on Tuesday to make proposals “in 15 days” to improve security in the stadiums.
