During the filming of Gladiator 2 in Morocco, an accident during a fire and pyrotechnic stunt scene resulted in injuries to six people. Although these incidents caused burns, the victims are not in vital danger.
The Paramount studio reacted quickly by providing first aid on site. It should be noted that none of the main actors were present at the time of the accident. At present, four of the injured are still hospitalized, while the precise origin of the incident has not yet been communicated.
This long-awaited sequel to Ridley Scott’s acclaimed film, Gladiator, is set decades after the events of the first installment. Russell Crowe, who made himself known thanks to this emblematic role, has become an essential figure in cinema associated with the intrigues of the Roman Empire. Gladiator 2 will feature adult Lucius, a potential heir to the empire after the death of his uncle Commodus (played by Joaquin Phoenix). Lucius is the grandson of Marcus Aurelius and nephew of Emperor Commodus, against whom Maximus (played by Russell Crowe) had rebelled.
To play adult Lucius, Ridley Scott chose Paul Mescal, a rising figure in Irish cinema. At just 27 years old, this actor was nominated for an Oscar last January for his remarkable role as a single father facing depression in the film Aftersun.
The cast of Gladiator 2 also brings together stars and revelations from television productions, such as Lior Raz (Fauda), Pedro Pascal (The Last Of Us), Joseph Quinn (Stranger Things), May Calamawy (Moon Knight) and Fred Hechinger (The White Lotus).
