6.5 million arrivals at the end of June, the upturn confirmed

The upward trajectory started by tourism since January 2023 is confirmed with the figures for the month of June. At the end of June 2023, the number of arrivals stood at 6.5 million tourists, an increase of 21% compared to 2019.

In June, reveals the supervisory ministry, the volume of arrivals at border posts reached nearly 1.4 million tourists, i.e. +25% compared to 2019. Several markets contributed to this performance, in particular Spain (+79 % Vs. 2019), the United Kingdom (+23% Vs. 2019), Portugal (+16% Vs. 2019) and the Israeli market (+96% Vs. 2019).

In terms of sector productivity, tourism, a major foreign exchange earner, generated 41 billion dirhams (MMDH) in foreign currency travel receipts at the end of May 2023, an exceptional increase of +42% compared to the same period of 2019.

These achievements combined with the offensive promotional actions bode well for an exceptional summer season. As a reminder, many partnerships have been signed with Tour Operators and online travel agencies in order to secure 2.8 million customers for the 2023 summer season, i.e. double the volume secured for the 2019 summer.

For the Minister of Tourism, Crafts and the Social and Solidarity Economy, Fatim-Zahra Ammor, “The sector’s indicators bear witness to the very good health of our tourism”.

“Our ambitions are obviously higher within the framework of the roadmap and we will continue to work with the entire industry and deploy the necessary means to achieve our quantitative and qualitative objectives”, she believes.
