5th African Regional Conference of ICID to promote the Moroccan experience

Under the theme ” Sustainable management of irrigation for better resilience of agriculture in Africa“, ANAFIDE is organizing the 5th African Regional Conference of ICID, in partnership with the International Commission on Irrigation and Drainage (ICID) and the Ministry of Agriculture and Maritime Fisheries.

From 23 to 30 November 2021 in Marrakech, the National Association of Land Improvements, Irrigation, Drainage and the Environment (ANAFIDE) is organizing the 5th African Regional Conference of ICID which aims to enhance the Moroccan experience by irrigated agriculture with the national and international scientific and technical network of ICID and to develop South-South cooperation exchanges for sustainable development in Africa.

On the sidelines of this conference, several events will be organized by the Moroccan National Committee of ICID in partnership between ANAFIDE and the French Association for Water, Irrigation and Drainage “AFEID “, Said the organizers in a press release.

These include, among others, the event of the Semaine des Sociétés d’Aménagement et de Gestion de l’Irrigation (SAGI) which is a West African network including Mali, Mauritania, Chad, Burkina Faso, Senegal and the Niger. On the program of this event, a meeting between the senior leaders of SAGI, major players in irrigation in Sub-Saharan Africa and the Directors of Regional Offices for Agricultural Development in Morocco around the Moroccan experience in irrigation.

The 5th African Regional Conference of ICID also know the holding of the 72nd Executive Council of the International Commission on Irrigation and Drainage (ICID) of which Morocco is a permanent member from November 26 to 30, 2021. During this council, will be endorsed the organization by ANAFIDE of the international conference on micro-irrigation in Dakhla in May 2022. The event will know the election of the three new vice presidents of ICID of which Morocco is a candidate.

Other events are on the program, namely the FAO Conference (Water, Energy and Food Nexus), Water Economics in Agriculture (World Bank), the Workshop for Young African Professionals (Sustainable Management of water in irrigation), the Workshop of the International Association of Geosynthetics, the Exhibition of irrigation technologies and hydro-agricultural developments as well as the Exhibition of regional products of the Kingdom.

In addition to a significant Moroccan participation represented by all regions of the Kingdom, delegations from forty countries, five continents and international organizations (FAO and World Bank) will take part in this event.

Delegations from countries that were unable to make the trip due to COVID-19 will be able to follow the work of the conference and sides events thanks to an important interactive live transmission system and with simultaneous translation set up by the ANAFIDE, concludes the organizers.
