Twenty-six people were killed and 2,506 were injured, including 97 seriously, in 1,835 traffic accidents that occurred in the urban area during the week from June 19 to 25.

These accidents are mainly due to driver inadvertence, failure to respect the right of way, excessive speed, inadvertent pedestrians, failure to respect the safety distance, change of direction without using signal, unauthorized change of direction, failure to control vehicles, non-respect of the stop sign, driving in the wrong direction, non-respect of a red light, driving while intoxicated, traffic on the left lane and defective overtaking, said the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN) in a press release.

Regarding the control and repression of traffic violations, the security services established 40,487 fines and drew up 7,384 reports submitted to the prosecution, while 33,103 transactional fines were collected, the same source said.

The sums collected for these fines reached 7,106,850 dirhams, added the DGSN, reporting the municipal impoundment of 4,910 vehicles, the seizure of 7,384 documents and the withdrawal from circulation of 201 vehicles.
