The 20th edition of the Marrakech International Film Festival (FIFM), scheduled from November 24 to December 2, promises a dense program in which Moroccan cinema has its rightful place, said FIFM general coordinator, Ali Hajji.
The 2023 edition is a strong one for Moroccan cinema, which will be represented in all the festival’s sections, stressed Hajji in an interview published Tuesday by the Moroccan French-speaking daily “L’Economiste”, noting that “with 15 films on the program, national cinema has rarely been so well represented at Marrakech’s event”.
Hajji also pointed out that “this is only the third time in the festival’s history that two Moroccan directors have been in competition in the same year”, referring to Asmae El Moudir and Kamal Lazraq.
FIFM general coordinator said that the Marrakech Festival has, since its inception, been able to attract the biggest names in world cinema, considering that few festivals manage to set up such prestigious juries, convince such key figures to come and lead a master class or a conversation, receive a tribute or present a film and debate with the public.
