The volume of arrivals at border posts reached around 2.9 million tourists in the first quarter of 2023 (Q1-2023), up sharply by +238% compared to the end of March 2022, according to the Tourism Observatory.
This change is divided between foreign tourists (TES) with an increase of +334% and Moroccans residing abroad (MRE) with +167, according to the statistics of the Observatory for the month of March 2023. in the first quarter of 2019, tourist arrivals increased by 17% in Q1-2023 (+47% for MREs and -1% for TES).
By source markets, Spain and the United Kingdom posted a significant increase compared to the first quarter of 2019 of +45% and +28% respectively. The United States and Italy also saw an increase compared to the end of March 2019 of +5% and +9% respectively.
On the other hand, the German, Dutch and Belgian markets saw significant declines of 39%, 34% and 28% respectively compared to the first quarter of 2019.
