1st meeting for the implementation of the Green Partnership

The Director of the European Union and Mediterranean Processes at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccans Living Abroad, Omar Amghar, chaired, Monday, June 5 in Rabat, the first meeting for the implementation of the Roadmap for the operationalization of the Green Partnership between Morocco and the European Union.

This meeting was attended by representatives of the various directorates general of the European Commission and Moroccan departments and entities concerned with the implementation of the Morocco-EU Green Partnership, explains the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in a press release.

In addition, the two parties are intensifying exchanges with a view to promoting the transition towards a low-carbon, resilient and inclusive economy. They lay the groundwork for close cooperation in promising sectors such as renewable energies and green hydrogen, in accordance with the EU’s Global Gateway strategy which is deployed in several areas including climate and energy.

As a reminder, the Morocco-EU green partnership was signed during the visit of the Executive Vice-President of the European Commission Frans Timmermans to Morocco on October 18 and 19, 2022. This is the first initiative of this type. with a partner country to advance the external dimension of the European Green Deal through action on the ground.

The activation of such a partnership constitutes the opening of a door full of opportunities, thus allowing the exploitation of renewable resources and the securing of energy. The common objectives of this initiative generally relate to the creation of a green economy resilient to climate change, the securing of energy supplies and the development of a model of sustainable cooperation with international actors and partners to further commit to achieving the objectives around the clean energy transition, implemented during the Paris Agreement.

In addition, the achievements and achievements of both parties are likely to promote enhanced cooperation between Morocco and the European Union as part of their joint action towards a Green Partnership.
